On November 7th, the American Lighthouse Foundation held its annual Volunteer Award Gala, and this year was extra special as it was held in conjunction with the 15th Anniversary of ALF.

For 2009, the ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism Award Honoree for the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is Capt. Neil Odams of Captain & Patty's Cruises in Kittery, ME.

During our 2009 season, Neil offered to host and co-narrate Tuesday Evening Cruises on the Piscataqua River, offering passengers close views of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, Whaleback Lighthouse, and the many other notable points of interest on the river. Neil's knowledge of the area and his good-natured approach and humor made the cruises enjoyable for everyone. His willingness to donate 100% of these cruises went far above and beyond any expected volunteerism and call to action. We sincerely thank Neil for his work and for stepping forward during trying economic times!
