Rock-a-Thon for Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse
Saturday, May 13, 1 to 7 p.m. At the Kittery Lions Club, 117 State Road (Route 1), Kittery, Maine
What is the Rock-a-Thon? It’s an event sponsored jointly by the York Youth Lighthouse Preservation Association (YYLPA) and Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses (FPHL). Teams (up to six people) and individuals will rock in rocking chairs for up to six hours. If you have six people on a team, that means you might plan for each person to rock for one hour, for a total of six hours.
Team members and individuals taking part in the event will gather pledges beforehand. The minimum pledge per person is $30. That means you could ask a family member, friend, or local business to sponsor you for a minimum pledge of $5 per hour. Of course, if you get multiple sponsors, you can raise more money. You don’t need to pay anything at the Rock-a-Thon; pledged donations will be collected and sent in later. All checks must be made out to FPHL.
This is an opportunity for area residents of all ages to help preserve one of the most historic buildings in the Seacoast region, Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Castle, New Hampshire. The 1878 cast-iron lighthouse tower is in dire need of a new paint job, at a cost of $28,500.
Participants must bring their own rocking chairs (one per team). We suggest that you bring hand-held video games, books or magazines, etc., to help pass the time. We will have refreshments on hand. There will also be a silent auction with some fun items, and live music.
So come join us for a day of rocking good fun. Put together a team with your family and/or friends! This quirky fundraiser will help the YYLPA and FPHL in their mission to preserve our historic lighthouses. Remember, it’s BYORC (bring your own rocking chair)!

We ask that you register your team (or individual) in advance; please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register or to ask any questions. We hope to see you there!
