Since 2001, Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses has been offering educational tours of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse. In 2014, almost 5400 people toured the lighthouse during the regular Sunday open houses and other special events. Visitors from 42 states and 16 foreign countries signed our guestbook during the season.

Our volunteers are at the core of our mission to educate the public about the rich history of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse and Whaleback Lighthouse. Last year, more than 20 volunteers helped out at our open houses and other events.

Our annual volunteer training day on Saturday, May 23, 2015, was followed the next day by a very busy first open house of the season, with 204 visitors. Kudos to all our dedicated volunteers and to our new operation manager, Cindy Johnson.

We’re always looking for new volunteers, especially to help with our weekly Sunday afternoon open houses. If you’re interested in being part of our team, please contact Cindy at info@portsmouthharborlighthouse.org. Open houses are held every Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend in October.
